The Von Erichs were a Texas wrestling dynasty. Their father, Fritz Von Erich, was a three-time world champion wrestler who encouraged his sons Kevin “Golden Warrior,” Kerry “Texas Tornado,” and David as “Yellow Rose of Texas” to strive for greatness as professional wrestlers.

The Von Erich brothers were immensely beloved among fans. Renowned for their athleticism, charisma, and exciting matches, their success came at a cost – they were constantly on the road. They often battled injuries as well as mounting pressure from their father to excel.

In 1984, David Von Erich died from an overdose of painkillers at age 25. Within two years, Kerry Von Erich committed suicide at 33, and in 1991, Mike Von Erich – the youngest brother – also took his own life at 23.

Zac Efron’s Transformation

Others suggest that the Von Erich brothers’ lifestyle contributed to the curse. Constantly on the road and often dealing with injuries as they worked their way towards success, the brothers also faced enormous amounts of pressure to perform well in business.

Whatever its cause may have been, the Von Erich wrestling family story remains one of the most heartbreaking chapters in professional wrestling history.
